According to the 2026 Rule of Law Index published by the international organization World Justice Project (WJP) on October 21, Uzbekistan ranked 79th out of 143 countries and jurisdictions, scoring 0.50 out of 1. Compared with the previous edition, the country moved up two places, while its overall score remained unchanged. Uzbekistan ranked 8th among 15 countries in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region.
The country’s highest score was recorded in the Order and Security factor, with 0.90 points and 15th place globally. By contrast, Uzbekistan scored 0.36 in Open Government and 0.37 in Constraints on Government Powers, ranking 120th and 115th, respectively. In Fundamental Rights, the country received 0.43 points, placing 109th.
The index assesses the rule of law across eight factors, including the absence of corruption, protection of fundamental rights, regulatory enforcement, and civil and criminal justice. WJP’s methodology draws on surveys of the general population, legal practitioners, and experts, reflecting both people’s experiences and professional assessments. The results provide a multidimensional overview of the country’s institutional environment, although the overall score does not replace a closer examination of each area.
