On October 27, 2026, the National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan published demographic data for January–September. According to the report, 638,600 births were registered during this period, 3.9% fewer than in the same period of 2025. The decline has continued for the third consecutive year: 716,900 births were recorded in the first nine months of 2023, compared with 693,900 in 2024.
Despite the decrease in births, the country’s population continues to grow. During the first nine months of 2026, natural population growth amounted to 515,200 people. As of October 1, Uzbekistan’s permanent population reached 39.5 million.
The continued decline in the number of births highlights the importance of examining long-term demographic changes, including regional differences and the age structure of the population. These factors may influence future demand for education, healthcare and social services, as well as the labour market.
