On November 2, 2026, the results of the first stage of Uzbekistan’s National Media Consumption Study were presented in Tashkent. Conducted through face-to-face interviews in September, the survey covered 1,411 people aged 18 and above across all 14 regions of the country.
Telegram channels were identified as the leading source of news, cited by 51.6% of respondents, followed by television (44.6%) and social media (41.6%). However, television ranked highest in terms of trust, with 44.3% of respondents expressing confidence in it, compared with 11.3% for Telegram channels. Among young people aged 18–24, 66.2% use Telegram for news, while 77.4% of respondents over 55 prefer television.
The study also highlighted key concerns within the media sector. The spread of unreliable information was identified by 46.6% of respondents, while 41.3% pointed to a lack of coverage of prices, employment and social support. The findings suggest that audiences expect media outlets to provide not only timely news but also reliable information, balanced reporting and deeper analysis.
