Only 3% of Central Asian Large Companies Have Integrated AI into Their Business

MIT research has revealed a gap between the growth of AI startups and the readiness of large companies in the region to adopt artificial intelligence.

Only 3% of Central Asian Large Companies Have Integrated AI into Their Business

On November 3, 2026, IT Park Uzbekistan presented findings from a study by the MIT Kuo Sharper Center, covering 650 startups and 103 large companies across Central Asia and the Caucasus. According to the results, 80% of surveyed startups identify as AI companies, while large businesses are adopting the technology at a considerably slower pace.

68% of large companies are still exploring AI or conducting pilot projects. Only 3% have made artificial intelligence a central part of their operations, while nearly half lack a clear AI adoption strategy.

The findings show that AI development depends not only on technological solutions but also on businesses’ willingness to invest in infrastructure, talent and digital transformation. For the research market, this highlights the need to examine adoption barriers and companies’ attitudes toward emerging technologies.
