Energy Integration in Central Asia Could Generate Up to $120 Million in Annual Economic Benefits

On October 29, 2026, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) presented a report on advancing energy integration in Central Asia. According to the bank's estimates, more effective coordination of regional energy systems could increase cross-border electricity trade by approximately 6 billion kWh annually.

The potential overall system-wide economic impact is estimated at up to $640 million per year, while net economic benefits after accounting for costs could reach up to $120 million under certain scenarios. The bank identifies digital management systems, harmonized electricity trading rules and more efficient use of existing infrastructure as key conditions for achieving this potential.

For businesses, stronger energy cooperation could improve the reliability of electricity supply and support more efficient resource use. This is particularly important for industrial companies, where stable electricity supplies directly affect production costs and investment decisions.
